Preparation
Day Before
Wax/Shave any Unwanted Body Hair
Waxing should be completed at least 48 hours prior to your appointment and shaving should be completed with a razor that lacks a moisture strip.
Exfoliate Entire Body With Kessa Mitt
We advise against using a body scrub/loofah combo as most are oil-based and will leave a residue.
Complete Manicure/Pedicure
If completed day-of tan, we advise you to forego any oils/lotions that your nail technician might apply on you. If completed days after tan, your tan may become uneven due to soaking, acetone, oils, lotions, etc. that your nail technician might apply on you.
Avoid Using Any Bar Soaps Or Cream-Based Body Washes
Any bar soaps/cream-based body washes (Dove specifically) are known to leave a residue on the skin and can create a barrier that the tan cannot penetrate through and may leave streaks. Any gel-based body wash is best. Showering should be completed at least FOUR hours prior to tanning to allow your pH levels to neutralize. If you must shower within four hours, run cold water at the end of your shower to close up your pores.
Complete Any Spa Facial/Massage Treatments
Tanning should ALWAYS be the last beauty treatment completed due to the barriers that spa treatment products can create.
Day Of
Do Not Apply Any Lotions, Oils, Deodorant, Perfumes, Or Makeup
All of these can create a barrier on the skin that the tan will not adhere to. If you have any of these products on, use a Micellar Wipe to remove. Do not use a Neutrogena Makeup Wipe as these are very oily and will create more of a barrier.
Wear Dark, Loose-Fitting Clothing With Open-Toed Sandals
The best outfit to wear is a sweat outfit. Any tight clothing put on immediately after the tan can result in unwanted lines due to friction. Please note that the bronzer in solution may transfer to your items, but is water soluble and should wash out.
Hours After
Do Not Get Wet Or Sweat Until Your Initial Rinse
If you accidentally spill water on yourself or if your pet licks you, take a fluffy makeup brush and use circular motions to buff and blend out the solution. You can also use a very small amount of self-tanner on your makeup brush to help blend. Understand that the bronzer will not appear "perfect" after, but once rinsed off, the tan will be evened out.
Rinse In Lukewarm Water With No Soap
You will see most of the bronzer wash away down the drain, which is normal.
Wait Until Your Color Is Fully Developed To Moisturize
All tans will take about 24 hours to be fully developed. Any product applied to the skin during this time can hinder the results. It is best to moisturize with a lotion that is free of any artificial fragrances or mineral oils as these will strip a tan very quickly.
Maintenance
2-12 Hours After
Avoid Moisture Until Your Initial Rinse
This means no showering, working out, lotions, or liquid foundations on the skin. If you have pets, do not let them lick.
Do Not Touch Your Body
If you touch your skin while your tan is developing, this could result in orange palms. If you accidentally touch your body, use Exfoliating Mitt to lighten your hands.
Standard Tans Must Rinse In 8-12 Hours
You will see visible color after your initial rinse, but should not moisturize for an additional 12 hours. Rinse with water only - Pat dry, do not rub.
Express Tan Must Rinse In 2-4 Hours
You will not see much visible color after your initial rinse, and should wait about 24 hours to moisturize. Rinse with water only - Pat dry, do not rub.
Rinse At Your Designated Time
If you do not rinse at your designated time, your tan may develop too light or too dark. If you urinate in the shower during your rinse, the ammonia can cause streaking. If you see streaks after getting out the shower, hop back in and use your hand to guide the leftover bronzer off.
Moisturize Morning And Night
The more hydrated your skin is, the longer your tan will last. Your moisturizer should be free of mineral oil and artificial fragrance. Understand that if you use any acne/retinol products, your face may become blotchy. You may use a Tan Extending lotion that contains DHA after day three of your tan.
Avoid Swimming, Long Hot Showers/Baths, Saunas, And Excessive Sweating
Your tan will not last very long if you are planning to do any of these activities.
No Exfoliating Until Tan Is At The End Of Its Life
We advise against using any loofahs or wash rags during your showers. It is best to wash with hands only in areas where needed (Pits + Privates) to ensure a long-lasting tan.
